Vienna: Austrian National Library
The Austrian National Library (Österreichische Nationalbibliothek ) is located in the Habsburg Palace, the former residence of the Habsburg family and the President’s current residence. It can boast about having within it over 7.4 items divided between various collections. It was founded by the Habsburgs during the 18th century, and in origin it was called the Imperial Library, changing to its current name only in 1920. The complex that hosts it includes also four museums and different archives and collections.
One of the library’s main objectives is to catalog books from every publication in Austria (including digital ones); it also maintains volumes by Austrian authors published outside the country. According to law, between one and four copies of every periodic are kept in here after being published: all of this is done in collaboration with the universities, which use this precious resource of information wisely.
