Venice Biennale 2013
Venice Biennale, also known as International Art Exhibition of Venice, is one of the most important Italian cultural events dedicated to contemporary art.
The 55th edition has opened to public on 1st June and will end on 24th November. This edition is entitled Il Palazzo Enciclopedico (Encyclopedic Palace) and has been curated by Massimiliano Gioni, who was inspired by the artist Marino Auriti in the choice of the title. In 1955, Auriti projected an imaginary museum that was meant to house all worldly knowledge, called Encyclopedic Palace. The exhibition is takes place at Giardini della Biennale, although the exposition includes the Arsenale and other Venetian museums, where the Collateral Events take place.
There are about 150 artists from 38 different countries on display; this year, for the first time, authors from Angola, Bahrain, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Kosovo and Kuwait will participate. The main theme of the Venice Biennale 2013 is the desire to see and know everything; the exhibition focuses on the obsessions and the power of imagination. If you are planning to visit Venice, you should not miss the most important cultural event of the city!
