Rome: the whole city seen from Monte Mario
From Monte Mario’s top you can witness one of Rome’s most breathtaking views. You can easily reach t
he spot by bus, and it offers a healthy alternative to the other activities you can practice as a tourist in the Italian capital. If you want to flee the classic tourist chaos, you can immerse yourselves in the greenery and freshness of this hill organizing a day long outdoor trip.
Monte Mario is also know as the Zodiac (lo Zodiaco) and reaches a height of 139 metres, which makes it the tallest hill in the area. Its name’s origin is still unclear: it may have originated from the fact that from its top you can see the sea (mare in Italian). Another theory states that a humanist named Mario Mellini lives in the villa near its peak.
The hill remains a place of archeological interest other than a social spot. Evidence was found of early human settlements which date back to 65,000 years ago- the oldest in the area!
Nowadays, Monte Mario is a prefect spot where to spend a sunny day out. If you want to visit it, do not forget to book your hotel through Best Bookings!
