Hot holidays destinations: discovering Zanzibar
Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania, and corresponds to the archipelago of the same name, made up of two main islands, Unguja and Pemba, and numerous smaller islands . Zanzibar is a destination that attracts a large number of tourists every year, thanks to its tropical climate, with high temperatures all year round. The best time to travel is between mid-December and March and from June to October .
During its history, Zanzibar has always been contaminated by very different cultures: since ancient times it is a major manufacturer and exporter of spices, and boasts a world record in the production of cloves.
Coast beaches are, as you can imagine, a real paradise: Jambiani, for example, is characterized by white coral sand. Jambiani extends into the middle of the Southeastern coast of Unguja and is the best known among the beaches of the South-East coast. Another popular resort island is Kizimkazi, near the South Western border .
For a more “urban” tourism, there is Stone Town, which is worth a visit: in 2000 this multiethnic and multicultural city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historical importance and its architecture. In Stone Town – whose name derives from the use of local coral stone as a building material – you move only on foot, by bicycle or motorbike, because the inner streets, lined with houses, shops , bazaars and mosques, are very narrow.
