The Gili Islands in Indonesia
Walking on the white beaches of Gili Island, in Indonesia, makes you feel like a character of the movie Cast Away. But this archipelago, could offer you more things than an old beach volley ball.
Gili Island are called “Oriental Maldives”, even if their waters are colder than those in Maldives.
Here, you can go to Trawangan to drink a cocktail at the Paradise Sunset Bar and dinner with fresh fish. For the accommodation, there are a lot of cheap bungalows.
The three island are called Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, and all of them are located near the north-west coast of the Lombok Island, that is part of the Lesser Sunda Island Archipelago, a bit east from Bali Island.
Gili Island are a popular destination among tourists that are looking for a unique experience on a remote island. Each island has several little villages, usually built with huts, for tourists, swimming pools and restaurants. Cars and motorbikes are prohibited on the island, where people get around just walking, or by bike or carriage.
You can reach Gili Island only by sea, sailing for 30 minutes from the bay of Bangsal, on the Lombok Island, or for 4-5 hours, from Padang Bai on Bali Island.
