Florence, Villa Medicea di Careggi
As many Italian cities, Florence offers a lot to do and a lot to see. If you are planning to visit this city, you should visit the beautiful Medici villas. One of the most charming of them is Villa Medicea di Careggi, which is located in Careggi district, a few steps from Florence’s city center.
It was built during XIV century, in a sober but elegant style. The villa was the place of birth and death of Lorenzo de’ Medici, and, during Reinassance, it was the site of Platonic Academy. Many artists and intellectuals, such as Marsilio Ficino, Agnolo Poliziano and Pico della Mirandola used to meet here.
The courtyard, attribute to Michelozzo, is one of the most fascinating areas of the villa; it is surrounded by round arches, supported by Reinassance columns. Between 1617 and 1621, the villa was restored according to the project of Giulio Parigi: on this occasion, the toilet on the first floor, the Grotticina and the lounge on the ground floor were built.
