Florence, Boboli Gardens
One of the most famous and fascinating parks of Florence is the Boboli Gardens, which is located near Pitti Palace, in the heart of the city.
It represents a beautiful example of Italian garden, characterized by a Renaissance style and a geometric division of space, filled with fountains, statues, grottoes, water organs and like. There are also many buildings and monuments with a great historical and cultural value, such as amphitheatre and the obelisk.
The Amphitheatre of Boboli was a court theater, mainly used during spring and summer, and was built during the Medici reign. The Egyptian obelisk of Boboli is located in the center of the park and is the only obelisk of Tuscany. Ferdinando de ‘Medici bought it in Rome and then transferred the obelisk in Florence, to expand De’ Medici collection. One of the most attractive buildings of the Garden is the Kaffeehaus, which was commissioned by Pietro Leopoldo. He usually went here with his court to have coffee, according to the fashion of the time.
