Coober Pedy: the underground town
Someone could think that it is an urban legend, but it really exists: we are speaking about a town, entirely built underground. The city, Coober Pedy, is located in the south of the Australian desert.
It was built in the early twentieth century: Coober Pedy is a small town of 3.000 inhabitants. Why was this city built underground? The answer is really easy: because of the warm temperature.
Here, living overground is impossible for the hot weather so the desert’s inhabitants are forced to live underground, where there are 1500 buldings, like houses, shops, clubs, museums and also a church.
How to reach Coober Pedy? You have to cross the Stuart Highway, one of the main Australian highways.
