Barcelona: Torre Agbar
Torre Agbar (Agbar Tower) is Barcelona’s third tallest building. If you ever noticed a curved and shiny building in the city’s skyline, we will explain its story in its brief article.
Its form is immediately recognizable, both in largeness and its unique shape. It was compared to many things: to a shell, a suppository and a geyser. Some of the nicknames it was given make fun of its phallic shape. The French architect Jean Nouvel himself described this peculiar shape, but also underlined that it was inspired by Montserrat, a mountain in the vicinity of Barcelona.
Torre Agbar is in the city’s most technologic district. It’s almost 150 metres tall and was completed in a record time of 5 years. Within it there are offices and an auditorium divided on 38 storeys.
